Panaji: The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) begins in Goa on Sunday. On Sunday morning, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inspected the venue of the film festival. “This is the right place for IFFI,” said Principal Pramod Sawant. Chief Minister Sawant said Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Bollywood celebrities Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty and Prabhu Deva will attend the opening ceremony of the International Film Festival of India at the Syam Prasad Mukherjee Maidan in Bambolim, Goa today.
As part of this year’s Central Government’s ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ programme, 75 young people in the age group of 18-35 will be the special guests at this year’s function. The idea behind the event was to celebrate films, the stories they tell and the people behind them. Marking the golden jubilee of Manipuri cinema, IFFI 53—Asia’s oldest film festival—will showcase five feature and five non-feature films curated by the Manipur State Film Development Society under the Indian Panorama, an official statement said.
April 9 is celebrated as the birth of Manipuri cinema every year since the release of the first Manipuri film “Madamki Manipur” directed by Deb Kumar Bose on April 9, 1972. Along with the screening of Ishano’s inaugural film directed by Padma Shri awardee Aripam Shyam Sharma and Ratan Thiam; Man of Theater along with other films in the non-feature film category, cinema buffs will get a taste of the rich cultural heritage, poignant storytelling, dance, music, traditions and theater from the state of Manipur.
Manipuri film pioneers Aripham Shyam Sharma, Oken Amaksam, Nirmala Sanu, Borun Thoksom and Romi Meitei will mark their presence to celebrate 50 years of Manipuri cinema’s aesthetic brilliance during the 53rd edition of IFFI in Goa, an official statement said. Officials said the doors of top cinemas at Joggers Park in Aldinho, Ravindra Bhavan in Marco and Miramar Beach will be open free of cost.
Indian Panorama, the flagship of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), has announced a selection of 25 and 20 non-feature films. Selected films will be showcased at the 53rd IFFI in Goa from November 20 to November 28, 2022.
