India enjoyed a successful run at the Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi on Monday with two bronze medals. Ronaldo Singh created history by winning the country’s first international medal in the 1km time trial event. After three days, India has 20 medals in its kitty.
World junior champion and Asian record holder Ronaldo clocked 58.254 km/h and clocked 1:01.798 s to top the leaderboard. He won the bronze medal in the 1km time trial event of the men’s senior category. It was his and India’s first medal in this event. Japan’s Yuta Obara won the gold medal in 1:01.118 s (speed 59.902 km/h), Malaysia’s cyclist Mohamed Fadil took the silver in 1:01.639 s.
“I came here for the gold but had to be satisfied with the bronze. I repeated my last year’s performance which was not good enough for the gold, to change the color of the medal.
“I have to focus more on my technique,” Ronaldo said.
