Basanta Panchami is one of the important Hindu festivals to worship Goddess Saraswati. The festival is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in Magha month. This day is also considered to mark the beginning of spring.

For the puja, one needs mango and leaves, kesar, haldi, akshat, kumkum, kangajal, kalasam, naivedyam, havan samita, sandalwood, shodash matrika, saraswati yantra and durva dal. Wearing yellow on the day of Saraswati Puja is considered auspicious.

According to Thrik Panchang, “Though there is no special time to perform Saraswati Puja on Vasant Panchami day, it should be ensured that the puja is performed when Panchami Tithi prevails. Many times Panchami Tithi does not prevail throughout the day on Vasant Panchami. We believe it is important to perform Saraswati Puja within Panchami Tithi.”
