Team India’s newly appointed captain for the T20I series against South Africa, Rishabh Pant was criticized by many for poor bowling changes and judgment during his captaincy debut in the first T20I at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. India’s premier spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled just 13 deliveries in the first game and was even asked to bowl the last over of the game. Responding to Pant’s criticism, his teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar has said that he is a young captain and will do better in the next match.

“Rishabh Pant is a young captain, it was his first game. It happens to everyone. I am sure he will try to do better in the next matches. It depends on the team how the captain looks. We bowled well. No, he takes every decision and if he brings a wicket, everyone welcomes the call but if it goes the other way, people criticize. But I think, it depends on the bowling team That’s how the captain looks. We didn’t do well as a bowling unit,” Bhuvneshwar said in the pre-match press conference ahead of the second T20I.
The veteran right-arm seamer, who took the opening wicket of South Africa captain Temba Bavuma in the first T20I in New Delhi on Thursday, conceded plenty of runs in the death overs. The 32-year-old conceded 43 runs in his four overs and took only one wicket.
India has played two T20 matches at the Barabati Stadium, winning one and losing one. India and South Africa have played a T20I match at the same venue here, where the Proteas won.
