Breaking: Nicholas Pooran relinquishes West Indies captaincy
After West Indies, the men’s team was ousted from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 competition, Nicholas Pooran has decided to step down as the team’s white-ball captain, Cricket West Indies confirmed on Monday. In the most recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, West Indies were led by Pooran. The former champions were eliminated before the Super 12 stage.
“I am not giving up. I am still ambitious and still see the captaincy of West Indies cricket as an honor that is bestowed upon you.
“There is no doubt that I remain fully committed to West Indies cricket and I look forward to providing my services as a senior player in a supporting role. By stepping down as West Indies white-ball captain now I believe it is in the best interest of the team and for me personally, as I need to focus on what I can give to the team as a player. I absolutely want to I am sure we will be successful and the most value I can bring to the team is focusing completely on the role of scoring runs consistently at crucial times.”

In the absence of Kieron Pollard, Pooran led West Indies to a historic series win as they defeated Australia at home in the T20 International series (4–1). When Pollard announced his retirement from international cricket in May this year, he was named the white-ball captain of the West Indies men. The left-handed batsman was the captain of the team in 17 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals.
