New Delhi: Global pop sensation BTS has announced that the group is retiring and will one day return to focus on individual projects. The South Korean septet, which includes RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, shared the news during a television dinner celebrating their ninth anniversary, where they promised fans they would “come back one day”.
In a Festa video posted on the group’s official YouTube channel, 29-year-old Suka said, “We’m going into a break right now.” Team leader RM, while enjoying being on BTS, said team members now feel “tired” and “don’t know what kind of team we were anymore”.
“Whenever I write lyrics and lyrics, it’s very important what kind of story and message I want to publish, but it’s gone now and I don’t know what story to tell now.
“Now that we’ve lost our direction, I want to take some time to think,” said the 27-year-old singer.
Jimin, 26, acknowledged that the group was trying to “identify our identity, but it was a difficult and lengthy process.” V assured the fans that the group was not divided and that they would reunite, “then, when we reunite as a group, that synergy will not be like the others”.
BTS refers to the Bangtan Sonyeondan, which is named after Korean songs such as “Black Swan”, “Boy With Luv” and “Life Goes On”, and English solo songs such as “Dynamite” and “Butter”. The news of the PDS break came as a huge shock to the army of fans expressing their frustration on social media.
In a statement, Hype, the South Korean entertainment company behind BTS, made it clear that the group was not going into a break.
“Clearly, they are not intermittent, but this time it will take time to explore some individual projects and be active in various forms.”
