Apart from Shikhar Dhawan, Dravid has worked with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July last year. Hardik Pandya will be the captain for India’s short two-match tour of Ireland.
“It’s been exciting, good fun, challenging too. There’s probably been about six captains in the last eight months that I’ve had to work with, which wasn’t really planned when I first started out. But that’s the nature of COVID.” The numbers, the game we are playing, managing the workload of the team and also making some changes in the captaincy.”
“So, I’ve got to work with a lot of people over the last eight months, which has been challenging as well as a lot of fun. It’s also good that so many other people get to lead. For us, our There is an opportunity to create more leaders in the group, Dravid said in an interaction with broadcasters ahead of the fifth T20I.
Asked to summarize the performance of the Indian team since taking over as head coach, Dravid pointed to the 2-1 Test series loss to South Africa earlier this year. “We are constantly learning, improving and have had opportunities to get better over the past eight months; we have tried many different ones, which has been great.”
“When I look back over the last eight months, it was a little disappointing to tour South Africa in terms of Test series. Going 1-up and not being able to work there, especially with the World Test Championship cycle, was a bit of a chore. Disappointment.”
“White-ball cricket has been great; we were on a bit of a roll in the T20 game and even here (against South Africa) where we don’t have a lot of our core players, we have been able to fight back. Brilliantly reflects the kind of character and quality, depth in the team.”
Dravid expressed his happiness over the emergence of young talent and making headlines with his stellar performance in IPL 2022, which he felt would help the Indian team in the future. “It has been fantastic. It was incredible to see the fast bowling talent we have (during IPL 2022), especially the clock speed of some bowlers, young boys, new talent to come up with two new teams on display this year It was unbelievable to watch.”
“A lot of youngsters got the opportunity to showcase their skills instead of sitting on the bench, and a lot of good ones came out of them, which is really a good sign for Indian cricket, giving us a lot of options when tough decisions have to be made. But overall, the times ahead are really exciting for Indian cricket.”
