North Goa: Goa police said there was a property dispute over the house after a 75-year-old French actress said she had been held hostage in a house in North Goa’s Calangute since earlier this week. North Goa Superintendent of Police Nitin Valsan told ANI that the issue was related to a property in North Goa’s Calangute village. “Two parties are claiming to be the owner of the property. One is a French woman and the other is a resident of Nepal. Both are claiming to be the owners of the property,” North Goa SP said.
The French woman has filed a petition in the High Court, police said. But his application was rejected by the court and he was directed to approach the civil court by the High Court. “The case is pending in the civil court, next date is Monday (January 30). It is a sub judice matter,” he added.
Regarding the allegation of hostage-taking, police said, “Our police inspector visited the property. Our officers are in constant touch with the woman. It was found that both parties claim to be the owners of the disputed house. The French woman and her maid were staying in a room in the house. The house was not locked from outside. When the police knocked on the door, French The lady and her maid opened the door. He has two men. Private security men.”
Another party from Nepal also has some safeguards. But people are moving freely.
Police denied allegations that anyone was being held hostage. “Allegations of being kept in jail or held as hostages cannot be substantiated,” North Goa SP Nitin Valsan told ANI. Police said they found some documents where the French woman said she paid one party to buy the disputed house and the other party said she was the wife of the original owner, who has now expired.
Hence, the case is pending before the court and a decision will be taken on it, police said.
