‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ song ‘Meri Jaan’ launched by Alia Bhatt in Kolkata
Bollywood star Alia Bhatt on Monday launched the new song “Meri Jaan” from her upcoming film “Gangubai Kathiawadi” at a promotional event in the city. The film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is based on a chapter from author S Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”, which features Bhatt as Gangubai, one of Kamathipura’s most powerful, endearing and loving women during the 1960s. “While I am savoring the sweet delicacies of Kolkata, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to launch a melodious song from the film for the first time in this city,” the 28-year-old actor said at a promotional event at Priya Cinema. Here. The music of ‘Meri Jaan’ is composed by Bhansali, with lyrics penned by Kumar, and sung by Neeti Mohan.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ starring Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Shantanu Maheshwari is all set to release on Friday. Bhatt said there is always pressure to satisfy the audience and do well at the box office.
“That pressure is inherent. When I’m making a film I prefer not to think about the pressure because I think it will get in the way of my creative process. Maybe I’ll try to play in the gallery. (But that) would be inauthentic to the character,” she said.
Asked to comment on Kangana Ranaut’s recent Instagram post where she criticized Bhatt and said “200 crores will burn to ashes at the box office this Friday”, she simply replied with a quote from the Bhagavad Gita.
The 28-year-old actor said, “Lord Krishna said in the Gita that inaction works. That’s all I want to say.”
Bhatt said that he did a few “twenty takes” while recording the song, but he is not sure which version Bhansali had finalized for the film.
