Lagaan boasts of an impressive star cast with several actors. It also featured Gracie Singh, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rajendra Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Rajesh Vivek, Pradeep Rawat and British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne.
The story of Lagaan revolves around a small village where the local people were oppressed by high tax rates. Set in the Victorian era, the film was shot in Gujarat. Officials and locals play the game of cricket as a bet to evade taxes. Lagaan went on to become one of the biggest hits and one of the most iconic films in the history of Indian cinema. Lagaan was the last Indian film to make it to the final cut of the Oscar nominations. It was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars.
