“Playing for the country has always been special, especially after a long break. I am coming back fresh and very excited to be back. It gives me an opportunity to showcase exactly what I have worked hard for. Doing well for the country. More important, and it gives me immense pleasure. Just looking forward to some positive and exciting days ahead,” Pandya said.

The all-rounder returned to the Indian team after leading Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2022 title at his home ground in Ahmedabad, dazzling with an all-round performance of 3/17 with the ball and 34 with the bat.

“I was happy. But for me, it was more about the battles that I won against myself and a lot of other things. Winning the IPL, or even qualifying (of the playoffs). For me) was a big deal for me because A. A lot of people doubted us. A lot of people scoffed at us before we started. Too many people raised a lot of questions. Too many for me before I even came back So many things were said. It was never about answering them,” recalled Pandya.

He explained in detail about his routine during his leave from the Indian team. “I’m proud of the process I followed. No one knows what I was really going through during six months. Nobody knows what I was doing in six months.”

“I wake up at 5 a.m. to make sure I train and then make sure I train a second time at 4 p.m. So, to give myself enough rest, I’m 9 at night: I have slept at 30. During those months. A lot of sacrifices were made, but for me, this was the battle I fought before playing IPL.”

“After seeing the results, it was more satisfying for me as a cricketer. I have worked honestly, honestly hard and it has always given me results. And that is why when I do something special I am very happy.” I don’t get excited.” Because it’s not specifically about the day, it’s about the journey.”

With the Men’s T20 World Cup year 2022 scheduled to be hosted by Australia in October-November, Pandya’s next aim is to be in his best self ahead of the mega event. “Whatever series and every match you play, it’s as important as your last. Obviously the World Cup is the target for me, but it’s the right platform for you to get into the rhythm. You know there’s a lot of cricket to come. It’s going to happen. Back-to-back. That’s why it’s very important for you to always be in tune.”

“For me, this series is a good opportunity for me to express myself. My roles will change here. I will not be the captain and I will not bat higher up the order to guide me through the innings. Known for being warm.”
