IPL 2023: ‘It is easy to say…’, said Suryakumar Yadav on the ups and downs of the last 18 months

Mumbai Indians might face a must win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match of the league stage but Suryakumar Yadav feels the team will treat this match like any other.
“It’s just another game for us. We know what we’ve been doing at the Wankhede in the last four to five games. We know our strengths and we’ll back that.”
The fact that MI will be playing their last match at their fort – the Wankhede Stadium – will fill the team with confidence going into Sunday’s match. (Watch: Jadeja threatens Warner for run-out during CSK vs DC clash, batsman responds with sword celebration)
“Playing in front of home crowd is always beneficial. One would like to end the league stage playing at home and the support tomorrow would be nice too.”
Suryakumar feels that instead of worrying too much about the opposition, the team would like to focus on its own performance. (Watch: Rohit Sharma’s hilarious reaction as male fan asks for a kiss, video goes viral)
“It’s important to focus on ourselves and what’s working for us and stick to it.”
He may have brilliant strokes with the ability to reach all areas of the ground, but Suryakumar says his approach to his strokeplay is very methodical.
“Whatever shots I play, I have already practiced them in the net or in my mind. I always try to play with the ground. I don’t hit big sixes, but I try to play low-risk, high-reward shots. I try. I feel the longer I play, the more beneficial it is for the team. I usually don’t practice for more than 15-20 minutes. I know where my run scoring options are and I work on that Persist. If it doesn’t come off, that’s fine. I go back and work on executing them better,” says Suryakumar.
Having had his fair share of ups and downs in the last 18 months, Suryakumar has learned to find the right balance to deal with the ups and downs in form.
“It is very easy to say that you need to stay grounded and balanced but it is a bit more difficult to implement in real life. If you manage to find that balance, it will show in your playing.”
Mumbai Indians will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai on Sunday.
