Shubman Gill was the star of the night for Gujarat Titans as his team managed to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore and knock them out of the Indian Premier League 2023 playoff race. Gill remained unbeaten on 104 off 52 balls as he almost single-handedly guided the Titans to victory in their final league stage game. But it looks like many were left unhappy when RCB got knocked out of the tournament and posted derogatory messages for Gill. Some even abused the batsman’s sister Shahneel.

It all started when Shubman Gill dropped a set of post-match pictures with the caption, “It starts now”, referring to the playoffs. Many blamed the Gujarat Titans opener for RCB’s defeat. Even Shahneel Gill was not spared, people left derogatory and lewd comments on her last Instagram post.

“I hate you. You beat up Rec.”

A fan said, “Bhai, tumhaara toh already raha hai raha hai, RCB ko ho jaane, diye hote.”

On Shahneel’s post, a person said, “Tere bhai ne dil tod diya sab ka.”

Some users came to the rescue of Shubman Gill. Let me say one thing, those who abuse Gill watch cricket for two days in a year and will not meet without abusing Gill. The RCB bowling attack has to perform better next year and not depend on any one player to win the IPL trophy. If Kohli or Du Plessis get out, RCB don’t have the capacity to rebound,” wrote one person.

Gujarat won the toss and elected to bowl after a rain delay at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Virat Kohli once again lived up to his title of ‘King’ and went past Gayle’s record of most centuries in IPL. The RCB opener smashed 101 off 61 balls to take the Bengaluru-based franchise to 197.

But luck favored Gujarat this Sunday. Thanks to Shubman Gill’s century, the defending champions were able to easily win. Vijay Shankar was also successful in scoring a half-century.

Gill is second in the list of highest run-getters this season after RCB skipper Faf du Plessis. The Gujarat Titans opener has scored 680 runs in 14 matches including two centuries and four half-centuries.

Gujarat will face four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1 game on May 23.
