Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday achieved a milestone by completing 5000 runs for MI in the Indian Premier League in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Rohit, who was struggling with poor form in IPL 2023, returned to his best performance in the crucial winning match. He completed his second half-century of the season by scoring 56 runs in 37 balls with the help of eight fours and a six. Rohit made his IPL debut with Deccan Charge where he scored 1,170 runs in 45 matches at an average of 30.79. His best was 76 not out for the Chargers.

Rohit is the most successful captain in the history of IPL. Since being appointed as the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI), he has led the franchise to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

This season, Rohit scored just 313 runs at an average of 24.08 and a strike rate of 134.91. He has only two fifties in the season. With a brilliant century from Cameron Green and a helpful innings from the captain, MI won against SRH and secured two crucial points to inch closer to quality for the playoffs.

Electing to bat, SRH openers Vivrant and Mayank Agarwal got off to a solid start as they did not lose any wickets in the powerplay and added 53 runs on the scoreboard. Young batsman Vivrant completed his maiden half-century in 36 balls in 9.5 overs. MI’s worries were growing as both the openers were batting strong in the middle order and added 100 runs in 11 overs.

In the 13th over, Vivrant and Agarwal punished Jason Behrendorff as he hit two sixes and a four to collect 19 runs. Agarwal also returned to his form in SRH’s last match, bringing up his fifty in 33 balls in 12.2 overs.

Vivrant was dismissed by Akash Madhwal in 13.5 overs after playing an excellent inning of 69 runs in 47 balls. He hit nine fours and two sixes in his innings. Agarwal’s knock came to an end when he was clean bowled by Akash Madhwal in 16.4 overs. He played a brilliant inning of 83 runs in 46 balls. MI then picked up a quick wicket of Glenn Phillips, who scored just one run. Chris Jordan got him out in 17.4 overs.

MI made a brilliant comeback in Madhwal’s 19th over, when he cleaned up the batsmen in successive deliveries. He dismissed Heinrich Klaasen for 18 and then Harry Brook for a duck.
With a six off the last ball, SRH put up a mammoth 200/5 in 20 overs. Sanveer Singh 4* and Aiden Markram 13*. Akash Madhwal was the pick of the bowlers as he dismissed four batsmen for just 37 runs. Jordan could also take a wicket.
