India vs South Africa 2nd T20I: Unfair to judge Rishabh Pant's captaincy after just one match, says Anjum Chopra

When the home team takes on South Africa in the second T20I at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on June 12 (Sunday), Indian skipper Rishabh Pant will again take the responsibility. Pant failed to live up to his franchise’s expectations as captain of the Delhi Capitals and then the 24-year-old’s decision-making process came into question after the team lost the first T20 to the Proteas despite scoring 200-plus runs after batting first. Went. Not to forget, India’s lone leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal did not complete his spell in the opening match and this led to a lot of criticism from Pant. Many believe that it was wrong to hand over the captaincy to Pant in the absence of KL Rahul, who was ruled out due to injury. However, former Indian cricketer Anjum Chopra says that there is little time to judge Pant as the Indian captain.

“It is very difficult to assess the captaincy of Rishabh Pant as the captain of the Indian cricket team. He is just one match old and he too became the captain last night on the eve of the game. So to say that he is not capable of being the leader or he He is an ideal leader, I think we need to give time. Be it KL Rahul or Hardik Pandya or Pant, everyone needs so little time. No one is born to take this kind of role directly.” Anjum told Zee News English in an exclusive chat.

He defended Pant’s selection as captain, saying that every player should be given time as captain.

“On the second part of the question whether he is the best person to be the captain of India or not. I think Indian captaincy should never come as a gift to anyone. I have seen in my career that Indian captaincy is given to people. Presented as a gift. But it shouldn’t be done. India cap and Indian captaincy are two big things for a player. And everyone likes to have it. I would not say that Rishabh Pant There are wrong choices. He is sure in all formats of the game. The biggest factor in his selection is the certainty that he is included in all formats of the Indian team. And if KL Rahul is unavailable then I don’t think Pant is a wrong choice.”

Anjum said that in a ground like Feroz Shah Kotla, which is a small ground, scoring 400 runs in a T20 match is not a big deal. “We must not forget, Feroz Shah Kotla is still a very small ground. If one team can reach 200, the other team can also reach 200. It is not that SA players are not experienced. They have quality Match winners. I think it was a game that South Africa played very well. And the Indian bowlers didn’t bowl as planned. It’s unfair to judge Pant on just one match.”
