New Delhi: World champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg) and Tokyo bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain (70kg) are on their way to Birmingham to participate in the Commonwealth Games as part of India’s women’s boxing team. The trial will take place on Saturday (June 11) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The other two boxers Neetu (48kf) and Jasmine (60kg) have also made the cut. Two-time Strandja Memorial Gold Medalist Nikhat beat Haryana’s Meenakshi 7-0 by unanimous decision, while Lovlina defeated Railway Pooja by an equal margin. Neetu (48kg) and Jasmine (60kg) were the other boxers who sealed the spots for the quadrennial event. Nikhat looked in control throughout her bout, throwing clear punches as she danced around the ring.

A two-time former youth world champion, Neetu won a 5-2 split decision over 2019 silver medalist Manju Rani. This Haryana boxer is enjoying a good day this year. She won a gold medal at the Strandja Memorial Tournament earlier this year. There was uproar too. 2021 Asian Youth Boxing Championship bronze medalist Jasmine defeated 2022 World Championships bronze medalist Parveen Hooda in a fast-paced light-middleweight final.
