The Met Gala, one of the world’s biggest events celebrating haute fashion, is often followed by a series of memes. This year is no different. The meme-fication of the Met Gala is keeping Twitter users across the globe engaged and how. Credit where it’s due — Jared Leto and Doja Cat appearing as Choupette, the pet cat of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, top the list. The theme for the year was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. The exhibition celebrated the legacy of the iconic designer, who died in 2019 and, therefore, the cat clothes. An unwanted guest and Cardi B’s side-eye are also churning out meme gold (more on that later).
The meme-fication, or should we say, meow-fication of Doja Cat is certainly the talk of T-town (as in Twitter). One user wrote, “Just witnessed the internet’s best fusion at the Met Gala: Doja Cat talks like a cat made entirely of memes. We have officially entered the matrix of internet culture.” “
