Los Angeles: Comedian and actor Pete Davidson will not be live on “Saturday Night Live” from New York due to his other work commitments. According to a report by variety.com, the cast members of ‘Saturday Night Live’ have been approved to work in the production of Miramax horror film ‘The Home’ directed by James DeMonaco.

A SNL spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment. The cast and crew completed the show’s regular dress rehearsals at Studio 8H at NBC’s New York headquarters, as part of the series’ much-anticipated broadcast ritual.

Davidson is the latest member of the venerable NBC program’s cast to take a leave of absence for other projects, part of a recent overhaul by executive producer Lorne Michaels.

Decades ago, cast members stayed close to the show in most instances. However, since last season, Michaels has given new leeway to the cast, many of whom have been with him for several cycles, to tackle other tasks—many of them under the auspices of his Broadway video production company.

For example, Cecily Strong was given leave to attend Apple’s “Schmigadoon” last season, while Eddie Bryant took a couple of weeks to help complete a new cycle of “Mr. Both were produced under the auspices of Michaels. Kate McKinnon was absent to appear in a movie for the most part of the first half of the current season of ASNL, but has since returned.

Strong also recently appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe”, a one-man show originally built around Lily Tomlin.

Davidson is one of the most scrutinized members of the current “SNL” cast. Since joining “SNL” in 2014 he has developed his range on shows, from appearances on “Weekend Update” to creating numerous taped sketches and playing figures such as former New York governor Andrew Cuomo.

As more TV viewers migrate to streaming services to watch their favorite scripted dramas and comedies on demand, “SNL” has taken on new importance for NBC.

Once local news broadcasts late in a time slot not considered paramount by network executives, the program now runs simultaneously live across the US, meaning it runs in primetime in some parts of the country.

In the 2020–2021 season the show was the most-watched entertainment program on TV with viewers between 18 and 49, the demographic most favored by advertisers.

In “The Home,” Davidson plays Max, a troubled employee at a retirement home who discovers terrifying secrets about the facility. The production of the film was to begin in January. DiMonaco was also the director of ‘The Purge’.

This week’s “SNL” broadcast is expected to be hosted by comedian John Mulaney, his fifth turn in that role since 2018. Mulaney was a writer on “SNL” for four seasons.
