Premier League: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United get goalless by Watford
Watford scored their first Premier League point at Old Trafford in a goalless draw on Saturday, dashing Manchester United’s hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Man Utd had 67 percent possession and 22 shots, but could not find a way to overtake a Watford side, who now have three clean sheets in six games under Roy Hodgson.
Cristiano Ronaldo hit a post five minutes before Bruno Fernandes had two chances to score, a brilliant Ben Foster save before Ronaldo headed for a cross-over.
In the second half, Anthony Elanga shot wide after a brilliant build-up play including a Paul Pogba flick, while Ronaldo blocked the shot back.
Ralph Rangnik brought Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford off the bench but they could not break Watford’s resistance. Ismaila Sarr fired just as Watford nearly snatched a winner.
The point extends Man Utd’s unbeaten run to eight matches and places them in fourth place with 47 points, two above Arsenal, who have three matches in hand.
Watford are 19th on 19 points, three from safety but have played more matches directly above them than both Burnley and Everton.
