Rama in Adipurush was the most challenging voice role for me: Sharad Kelkar

MUMBAI: Voice acting is a responsible job and behind the scenes for actor Sharad Kelkar, his portrayal of Lord Ram in the Hindi-dubbed multilingual period drama ‘Aadipurush’ has been his “most challenging” role till date. In the project, Kelkar voices Telugu star Prabhas, for whom he previously dubbed the superhit ‘Baahubali’ franchise.
Kelkar, who will be voicing for actor Nani’s Telugu film “Dussehra” next, one wrong note from the voice actor can ruin all the work the actor has done on screen.
“Voice acting is a responsible job because you are giving your voice to someone else who has acted wholeheartedly. One mistake you make can ruin his performance. So, I am responsible (for giving my voice) even for Ram. Or for Nani’s character. Ram is very challenging. Voice for ‘Aadipurush’ I am also proud,” Kelkar told PTI in an interview.
Directed by ‘Danhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ fame Om Rawat, ‘Aadipurush’ is produced by T-Series helmed by Bhushan Kumar. Released in June. Best known for his performances in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series ‘Ram Leela’, ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Thanhaji’, Kelkar said there were times when he felt pigeon-holed because of his baritone.
“As an actor, it’s a disadvantage for me because it’s hard for people to imagine me in different roles. Because I have a certain personality and voice, they give me the same roles. Specific characters like a cop or a villain.
“I try to do different things. I try to prove again and again that I have a good voice, but my strength is my acting. It (voice) is an added advantage and I don’t take credit for that voice. Such,” she said.
His latest release is the heist drama “Chor Nikal Ke Bhaaga” starring Yami Gautham and Sunny Kaushal. Directed by Ajay Singh, the film is produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan under Madak Films.
In the upcoming Netflix movie, the 46-year-old actor plays Sheik, who he describes as an important government official investigating a theft.
Kelkar said he was interested in exploring the genre of heist films and found the story of the film interesting.
“In India people don’t smuggle plagiarism or plagiarism films. Maybe the story is good but the execution is wrong, sometimes the execution is top notch but the story or screenplay is flat. I have heard this story before as Amar. And writer Siraj Ahmed narrated the story and I like it very much. I found it interesting,” he added.
‘Chor Nikal Ke Baaga’ starts streaming from Friday.
