LOS ANGELES: American rapper Lil DJ was one of two people shot in New Jersey early Wednesday morning, just weeks after announcing ‘good summer’. According to mypost.com, the Bronx-born rapper was repeatedly assaulted at The Bromonade in Edgewater. The Bergen County Attorney’s Office said police responded to reports that a shooting had taken place at the scene just after midnight.

When they got there, they found 21-year-old Lil DJ, whose real name was Theon Marriott, with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said 22-year-old Antoine Boyd was found with a gunshot wound. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released their terms, although tmz.com reported that Lil DJ underwent emergency surgery. Authorities say the shooting came after Mohamed Connaught tried to rob 24-year-old Jeffrey Valdes, a third person who was with Lil DJ, Boyd and the rapper. Both Waltz and Boyd were in possession of illegal weapons at the time.

Connaught was arrested Wednesday by detectives from the Bergen County Attorney’s Office and the New York Police Department. Authorities say his deportation to New Jersey is currently pending, nypost.com reported. He is charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an illegal purpose and a fourth degree aggravated assault.

Both Boyd and Waltz were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and are being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hokkaido for preliminary investigation. Lil DJ is a Bronx-born rapper with over 7 million followers on Instagram. He became famous on SoundCloud and was signed in 2018 by Columbia Records. His debut album ‘True 2 Myself’ reached number 5 on the US Billboard 200.

Two weeks before he was shot, in an Instagram post, the rapper posted a video of himself dancing shirtless with a large chain entitled “Dis Cone a Good Summer”. Fellow artists and athletes offered their prayers for the injured rapper. Hip-hop star French Montana tweeted.
