Saira Banu, who was heartbroken at the event, wants to get ‘Kohinoor’ to Dilip Kumar …
Mumbai: Veteran actress Saira Banu has said that her late husband actor Dilip Kumar should be given the Bharat Ratna award. Saira attended the Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Awards on Tuesday evening, where Union Minister Ramdas Advale paid tributes to Dilip Kumar, who passed away at the age of 98 last year.
At the event, Advale said he would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider awarding the country’s highest award, the Bharat Ratna, to Hindi cinema legends.
When asked about this, he said, “God willing, it should happen because Dilip Sahab has been the ‘Kohinoor’ of our country. Therefore, the Kohinoor should definitely be awarded the Bharat Ratna.”
Saira Banu was married to Dilip Kumar in 1966. The pair have acted together in several films including “Sakina” and “Kopi”. At the event, the 77-year-old actor broke down several times while receiving honors. “This is the reason I do not attend any ceremonies, I feel scared, but what can I do,” she wiped away the tears.
“I feel that Dilip Kumar continues to be a firm supporter of me,” she said. “He’s still here, watching everything, I feel like he’s with me. He’s not in my memories. He’s with me every step of the way. I can spend my life believing he’s with me.
“I don’t think he’s there, so it’s easy for me to believe he’s with me and will always be supportive of me, ‘Mera Kohinoor’,” he added.
