Sanjay Leela Bhansali said on reuniting with Salman Khan, said- ‘changed’
New Delhi: Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is one of the most sought after directors based on the success of his recently released Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’. However, actor Salman Khan collaborated with him for hits such as ‘Khamoshi’ (1996) and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999) when he was relatively new to the industry. Salman and Aishwarya’s chemistry was especially appreciated in ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. The actor-director duo was all set to reunite after a gap of 21 years for the film ‘Inshallah’. The film which was also supposed to feature Alia Bhatt got called off a few days before it went on floors.
Speaking about the possibility of him reuniting for a film, Sanjay told Bollywood Hungama, “Salman is a very dear friend, and I wanted to work with him after Padmaavat. I put my best foot forward to get it done. For some reason, it didn’t turn out. We all change as people. So he has changed; In his mind, I have changed.”
The director further revealed, “I have the utmost respect and respect for the person who did the silence for me, who did Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for me, and who stood in Saawariya. That’s why he (Salman) has been a very important part of who I am today and I will always respect him for that. The ball is in his court to decide if he wants to work with me, and if it is God’s will then inshallah agar hona hai to hoga (If it should happen then it will happen).
In another part of the interview, Sanjay revealed that he and Alia were both heartbroken after ‘Inshallah’ closed.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is Alia and SLB’s first collaboration. The film is getting tremendous reviews and is doing well at the box office as well.
