Sri Lanka will take on Australia in the second of five ODIs at the Pallekele International Stadium on Thursday (June 16). 7 in the batting order of Glenn Maxwell’s Whirlwind 80, the hosts are down 1-0 in the SL series after winning the rain-hit first ODI via the DLS method.
Australia pacer Pat Cummins has downplayed the effects of his longstanding hip injury, saying he is hopeful that it will make a full recovery with time as he continues to manage it on the Sri Lanka tour. Cummins left the Indian Premier League early to recover from the tension and was rested from the Twenty20 series, but made a comeback in Australia’s two-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the first ODI at Pallekele on Tuesday.

Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch revealed this week that Cummins had been injured for more than a year. Cummins said the injury was ‘nothing major’.
“It’s just for a while,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “That rear end of the IPL felt like it got really screwed up… and (it was) pretty clear that I needed a little break.”
Australia’s fast bowlers have suffered a setback in Sri Lanka as Kane Richardson has been ruled out of the five-match ODI series with a hamstring injury and Mitchell Starc is recovering from a badly amputated finger. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is out due to a calf strain.
Cummins said Starc had returned to bowling but the selectors were cautious ahead of the two-Test series starting in Galle on June 29. “He’s also going to be a little wait-and-see,” Cummins said. “I think the plan was to put in stitches in the next day or two. We don’t want to jeopardize the Test series by reopening that (cut) too soon. A good result would be that he is out of this (ODI) series.” Play something.
