MUMBAI: Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas on Friday termed the Russian military attack on Ukraine as “horrific” and said it is difficult to understand how the situation has escalated to a “devastating point”.

Russian troops launched their anticipated attack on Ukraine on Thursday, as President Vladimir Putin rejected international condemnation and sanctions and warned other countries that the consequences of any attempt to intervene would be “never seen”.

Chopra Jonas, who is UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador, shared a news clipping of the Ukraine crisis on Instagram.

“The situation unfolding in Ukraine is terrifying. Innocent people live in fear for the lives of themselves and their loved ones, while trying to navigate the uncertainty of the immediate future,” he wrote.

The 39-year-old actress has also attached a UNICEF donation link in her bio to help the children of Ukraine.

“It is difficult to understand how this could escalate to such a disastrous point in the modern world, but it is a consequent moment that will resonate around the world. Innocent lives are living in this war zone. They are just like you and me. More information on how to help the people of Ukraine is on the link in my bio,” he added.

Chopra Jonas is the latest Hindi film personality to show solidarity with Ukraine, with filmmakers Onir, Rahul Dholakia, actor Tilottama Shome condemning Russia’s special military operation, claimed by President Vladimir Putin to protect civilians.

Big explosions were heard before dawn in Kiev, Kharkiv and Odessa.
