Veteran Kannada actor Chetan Kumar arrested for posting non-violence against HC judge
BENGALURU: Popular Kannada actor and activist Chetan Kumar Ahimsa, who is part of a three-judge bench in the hijab controversy, has been arrested by the police for posting derogatory messages on social media platforms against the judge. Wednesday.
The actor has been sent to 15 days judicial custody. The police registered a case against the actor under sections 505 (statement of public mischief) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC.
American citizen and learned actor Chetan, Justice S. Retweeted his comment on Krishna Dixit. In his tweet, Chetan had commented on the bail granted to an accused in the rape case and also objected to the judge’s remarks. He tweeted this message two years ago.
After retweeting the same message, Chetan claimed that the judge who had given an objectionable statement in a rape case is investigating the hijab case. Chetan had questioned whether the judge had clarity on the issue.
Based on the tweet, the Seshadripuram police took suo motu cognizance and registered a case against him. Hundreds of people have reacted to the incident and condemned his arrest. Meanwhile, Chetan’s wife Meghna has come live on social media and claimed that Chetan has been kidnapped. Now his supporters have said that they will fight a legal battle for Chetan.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Police has arrested three persons in connection with the attack on the brother of one of the petitioners in the hijab controversy, Hazra Shifa. The arrested people have been identified as Deepak Kumar, Manoj and Sunil Raj. On Monday night, the accused pelted stones at the restaurant run by Shifa’s father and attacked her brother.
