Veteran Kannada actor ‘Kalatapasvi’ Rajesh passes away at 89
Veteran Kannada actor Rajesh, popularly known as ‘Kala Thapasvi’, passed away at the age of 89 at a private hospital in the early hours of Saturday (February 19). He was admitted to the hospital a week ago. Rajesh acted in over 150 films in his career spanning over four decades. His autobiography, ‘Kala Thapasvi Rajesh Atmakathe’ came out in 2014.
His daughter Asha Rani is the wife of multilingual South actor Arjun Sarja.
Rajesh was born as Munichhadappa in Bangalore in 1935. He developed an interest in theater in his childhood and joined the Sudarshan Natak Mandali without the knowledge of his parents.
On the pretext of going to tuition, Rajesh introduced himself as Vidyasagar and joined the theater group. He started working as a typist in a government office and started his own theater group called Shakti Natak Mandali.
Her theater experiments led her to films and she made her silver screen debut with ‘Veera Sankalp’. When he was cast as a solo hero in ‘Namma Ooru’, his name was changed to Rajesh, which became a superhit in 1968.
His major films are ‘Gange Gauri’, ‘Sati Sukanya’, ‘Beluvalada Madilalli’, ‘Kappu Bilupu’, ‘Brandavana’. He was recognized as one of the leading actors of the Kannada film industry.
Rajesh’s body will be kept at his Vidyaranyapura residence so that people can pay homage to him till the evening. The funeral will be held in the evening.
