WATCH: Sunil Chhetri's stunning free-kick video in India's win over Afghanistan goes viral

India captain Sunil Chhetri produced another magical moment for the Blue Tigers with his free-kick goal against Afghanistan in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier on Saturday (June 11). It was a tough contest between the two countries and Chhetri gave India a 1-0 lead over Afghanistan with a brilliant free-kick in the 86th minute of a crucial match in Kolkata. The Blue Tigers entered Afghanistan in full confidence after a 2-0 win over Cambodia in the previous match. Chhetri opened the scoring for the night at the Salt Lake Stadium and gave India a 1-0 lead late in the match.

Afghanistan responded with a goal after Chhetri’s goal, but Sahal Abdul Samad produced the clutch moment in extra time to give India the crucial win they were looking for. After a tight fight between the two sides, Igor Stimac’s men beat Afghanistan 2–1.

The 37-year-old’s magical goal saw him score 83 goals for the country after curling from the inside of his leg to easily defeat the Afghanistan goalkeeper in the 86th minute of the match. Notably, Chhetri’s scintillating free-kick goal left fans praising the Indian legend on social media.

Sunil Chhetri and Manveer Singh were replaced by Udant Singh and Sahal Abdul in the 89th minute after Chhetri’s goal and Afghanistan’s return. Later, India’s Aashiq was held off by the defenders but he somehow managed to slip the ball for Sahal Abdul Samad, who slipped the ball to the bottom left corner to give India all 3 points.

India have now won consecutive matches against Camodia and Afghanistan by finishing second in their AFC Asian Cup Qualifier group and will next take on Hong Kong on June 14, who are currently leading the first-placed group.
